Leading ethical and environmental magazine, Ethical Consumer (est. 1989), recently voted Lucy Bee Coconut Oil as the ‘Best Buy’, for coconut oil in the UK market. We came out as the winner for the most ethical coconut oil.
Their ethical product guide for coconut oil covers “the social and environmental records of companies” and they then report on this is an easy to understand guide.
To receive the invitation to use the ‘Best Buy’ butterfly label is no easy task. Companies are closely scrutinised and only once all the boxes are ticked and top marks allocated, are you then invited to use the label.
"The Ethical Consumer Best Buy Label identifies companies such as Lucy Bee who consider ethics throughout their entire operation. This gives shoppers the confidence that they're making the best possible ethical and environmental choice.
The label is the definitive endorsement for people who want to put
principles at the top of their shopping list."

We’re doubly excited to use this label for our coconut oil – not only is it raw, unrefined, organic and cold pressed, ie. premium quality but we, Lucy Bee Ltd, the company, has been recognised for our commitment to Fair Trade and our empathy with the environment in all that we do, in other words, caring for both people and the planet.
We received full marks for our ‘company ethos’ and here were judged on our ability to demonstrate an ethos committed to sustainability eg. organic, Fair Trade, vegan approved.
We also received top marks for issues covering workers’ rights, animal rights, political activity and climate change.
As our readers and followers will know, we care deeply about our social responsibility and strive to be ethical and moral in everything that we do. Seeing our efforts recognised in this way is fantastic news.
Simply put, when you buy Lucy Bee Coconut oil, you are assured that every hand involved in the production is treated fairly.
Fair Trade – being certified by the Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance (FairTSA), guarantees that the workers and farmers are treated fairly; receive a fair wage; receive a fair price for their coconuts; have the right to set up a union; are given safe working conditions; all workers have contracts; funds are allocated for sustainable community development projects; no child labour; no cruelty to animals. Our Fair Trade certification also guarantees no monkeys are used to pick or collect the coconuts that are used for our oil.

Organic – we totally buy into the principle of organic farming methods, which offer nutritionally-rich foods and, at the same time, cares for the environment for future generations.
Raw – minimal heat is used (max 45C) during the cold press extraction to ensure maximum nutritional value for our coconut oil. We like to keep things as natural as can be.
Agroforestry – our coconuts are grown in an agroforestry environment, one of the most environmentally friendly agricultural production systems in existence. It aids soil fertility and cleaner water through reduced nutrient soil run off and it allows for other crops to grow between the coconuts. In our instance, bananas are grown between the coconut trees which helps the farmers to spread their crop risk and also increase income.
Bottling – our coconut oil is bottled in BRC grade A facilities, which is the highest level for food packaging.
Glass jars - we insist on using recyclable glass jars for our unrefined coconut oil, rather than plastic. To encourage reuse of the jars, we offer customers a free jar of coconut oil for every 12 of our easy peel labels sent to us.

Packaging – our display trays are made from recycled cardboard and we use steel lids for the jars, with the highest standard of food safety for the seal inside the lids.
Vegan – no animals are used in the picking of the coconuts used for our coconut oil, nor at any stage during the extracting of the oil, delivery or transportation.
Testing – every import of our coconut oil is subjected to a number of tests to confirm its purity, oil content and that it is lactose and gluten free.
Supporting charities – to complement our Fair Trade certification for our coconut oil, we also support smaller charities in various ways. At the moment, we are supporting the Little Blossoms Project in Malawi. All commissions raised through our affiliate scheme with Amazon, are donated to this charity, along with one-off fundraising efforts throughout the year.
